Premature Ejaculation

Start-Stop: Reclaiming Control

15 min
Premature ejaculation
Wanting more control over arousal
Building body awareness

The start-stop technique (Semans, 1956) trains you to recognize the 'point of no return' and pull back from it. Practiced over a few weeks, most people significantly extend their control.

Step 1 of 5

Get comfortable solo first

Begin self-stimulation. Use a 0–10 scale where 10 = orgasm. Aim to recognize 7.

Step 2 of 5

Stop at 7

When you hit 7, stop completely. Hands off. Breathe slowly for 30 seconds.

Step 3 of 5

Restart

Resume stimulation. Repeat the stop at 7 three times. On the fourth round, allow yourself to finish.

Step 4 of 5

Practice with a partner

Once it's reliable solo, bring your partner in. They follow your cue to stop and restart. Same rule: stop at 7.

Step 5 of 5

Progress slowly

Move from manual → oral → penetration over several sessions. Don't skip steps even if it feels easy.

Things to remember

  • This isn't a willpower exercise. It's an awareness exercise.
  • Plateaus are part of the process. Two steps forward, one back is normal.
  • If anxiety is high, pair this with grounding before you start.
